Say you need to get a gift for an acquaintance, and you don’t know too much about them, but you know they love the color pink. That’s probably where you’d start on your search for what to get them for a gift, right? Tags are what help customers on INPRNT find exactly what they’re looking for. Titles and tags are crucial in making sure your art finds it’s audience on INPRNT, so let’s cover some basics!

Precise and accurate tagging
Tagging your art work accurately will allow it to be found by its desired audience. The INPRNT staff also utilizes tags to find artists and prints to feature in our curations. Here are some suggestions on what to tag when uploading your art to INPRNT!
- Medium: This helps shoppers that have a preference in medium find what they’re looking for more efficiently.
- Color Palette: Now don’t go tagging all of ROYGBIV, but if your piece predominately features specific colors, tag them!
- Subject: Add some tags for what’s featured in your print, but don’t get too crazy! Focal point objects or persons in your art should definitely be tagged, but hold off on tagging basic background or generic things.
- Tone: A part of art is how it makes us feel, don’t be afraid to guide your customers into the emotion you’re conveying in your art by tagging the tone of the print! Popular tags include humor, happy, or relaxing.
- Find the middle ground: you want tags that are specific to your artwork, but don’t be afraid to break them up to optimize searchability. “Girly Y2K Nostalgia Bedroom” wouldn’t generate many results, but “Y2K Nostalgia” and “Girly Bedroom” would!
- Your name: Tag all your prints with your name, that way fans of yours can easily locate and identify your INPRNT gallery!
Make use of descriptions
Creating an engaging and accurate description for your art will lead to better SEO (search engine optimization) results. This is the place where you can share with viewers what medium you used, what inspired the print, the year you made it, or any other background you want to include.
Why you shouldn’t over do it on tags
We know you want people to see your art! But imagine being a customer and searching for something specific, only to find that tag bogged down by irrelevant artwork. You’d probably get frustrated and stop looking for that thing, right? Inaccurate, overdone tagging negatively impacts the INPRNT community experience- for both the customer and other artists. Accounts that are found to be abusing the tag system are subject to removal.
Do your research
Don’t be afraid to poke around on INPRNT and search for tags you’re thinking of including alongside your piece. INPRNT allows for searches to be sorted by popularity or upload date. This can help decide if this is the right tag for your print!
